Edin Gutierrez
Visual Artist
Born in Santa Clara, Cuba in 1953, Edin Gutierrez is a graduate of the San Alejandro School of Painting in Havana, Cuba. In the beginning his paintings were defined by his passion for Cuban urban landscapes. His evolution as an artist made him aware of the importance of the environmental issues, and he started to be inspired and enlightened by the soul of the planet. In addition, his tobacco series has been developed during all these years, and became homage to the rituals of pleasure that Cuba converted into its own culture. The women in his paintings represent the tobacco leaf with its sensuality, its nakedness, its mystery through intimacy, because its expression is similar to the tobacco process from harvest to final elaboration. Every artwork is based on a specific story. It can be read through the connections between the vignettes, Cuban landscapes, names and women.
Edin Gutierrez’s paintings and hand-painted humidors belong to numerous Private Collections and prestigious Art Galleries and Museums.

Quotes from Publications and Art Critics
“Edin Gutierrez, painter and sculptor, has looked for a way to personalize his work, especially large format paintings, starting from ancient architecture and themes of the past, which is evidence of his nostalgia for the Habana from which he can’t escape.” “Each painting is a message from the past.” – El Nuevo Herald – Artes y Letras – Antonio Ramon Zuñiga
“Edin Gutierrez, a painter always renewed.”
“When we started to know the artwork of artist Edin Gutierrez, he surprised us with an avalanche of creativity, offering a renewed exhibit not conforming to simplistic creations.”
“The artist manages, through the creation of his urban landscapes, to give permanence to what perhaps was always a myth.” – El Nuevo Herald, Eduardo Valenzuela, Art Critic
“Without country in time.”
“In the search and enrichment of his creative process, Edin Gutierrez started a series of vignettes that have the peculiar semantics of the cigar labels. Here the human figures and nudes come together in a collage with exotic elements, flora and diverse characters.” – Jaime Cabrera Gonzalez, Art Critic.
“Colonial imprints of Edin Gutierrez.”
“In his paintings, in which the colors are magnified by the relief of solid textures, the exhibitor looks to capture an unchanged city.” “Edin Gutierrez concentrates on the fixation of what is Cuban.” – El Nuevo Herald, Armando Alvarez Bravo, Art Critic.
